Significant challenges to direct reaction studies at SPIRAL2 :
- increased level densities: improved energy resolution
- proximity of continuum: bound and unbound states important
- coupled channels: simultaneous measurement of all reaction channels
GASPARD will be designed to meet these challenges :
- fully integrated particle and gamma detection
- maximum efficiency and solid angle coverage
- high granularity
Modularity is important :
- need to exploit different target technologies: cryogenic, polarized
- ability to couple with other arrays: PARIS, AGATA, Neutron detectors, magnetic spectrometers, …
